This week, in order to teach our children some relaxation techniques, some of the Great Clacton juniors have started to learn a few yoga techniques and moves. We taught them a specially designed programme for children, which was very well received by the students.

Following the yoga session, we introduced the concept of mindfulness training. We were incredibly proud of our young learners, who approached learning about mindfulness in a truly mature manner.

Today, all of year 4 worked together. We had a special reading lesson in which we learned about how the computer industry is trying to help schools and children to get into computer programming using games. First, we read a text about the industry and how certain computer programming apps for children work. We had to answer lots of questions about the text. Then we briefly got to programme the robot A.L.E.X. on iPads to get him to move on a grid. Then, we took to the playground and drew chalk grids and played the game by 'programming' each other to move on the grids, just like A.L.E.X. in the app.

Today we all returned to school in our new year groups and were excited to welcome year 3 into our junior school. The day went really well! We were all working together to come up with our own classroom rules, for example, we had a welcome assembly (which was held by Mrs Syred-Paul and Mr Joy) and we even walked a mile.

After a lovely summer break, staff returned to Great Clacton Junior School today for an all-staff training day.
Teachers, LSAs, kitchen and admin staff and midday assistants were all training in 'Playground First Aid'. Trainers from a specialist training company, Frinton Training, visited the school to train us on the most important aspects of first aid.
It was a 'hands on day' in which we learned (among other things), how to attend to wounds, how and when to use the recovery position and how to resuscitate.
